Eid al Fitr: Short trips can be exciting, and stress-free

Muscat: The Eid al Fitr holidays have been announced in the Sultanate of Oman as per the Royal Decree 88/2022, which states that it starts from 29 Ramadan until 3rd Shawwal.

The Gregorian date of this holiday may vary, either in advance or delayed, depending on the moon sighting.

Astronomical calculations say Eid al Fitr is likely to fall on Monday and thus the holiday is expected to be long, including two weekends, but it depends on the moonsighting on Saturday.

However, if it falls on Sunday, then the holiday is expected to be short.

Short-trip: If the holidays are only for three days, excluding the weekend, the following tips will be useful while deciding to go on your short vacation and make it the most enjoyable and stress-free.

The tips are to choose a destination, and the right accommodation, set priorities, plan well, choose a compact schedule, look for packages, and avoid destinations that need to fly to avoid last-minute disruptions.

Make use of social media posts on the destinations, reviews, and local travel planners, and plan your budget.

The Sultanate of Oman offers plenty of destinations that are within a three to four-drive and with accommodations that are in the range of various star-ratings.

Moon sighting

According to the Ministry of Endowments & Religious Affairs, the annual moon-sighting meeting is held to receive reports from subcommittees across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to determine the date of Eid Al-Fitr based on the Sharia-compliant sighting of the crescent moon.

The meeting brings together representatives from relevant authorities and experts in astronomy and Islamic jurisprudence, ensuring accuracy in the sighting process and decision-making based on recognized religious and astronomical standards.

Following the meeting, the official announcement of Eid Al-Fitr's date is made through official channels.
