Young people actively taking part in Ramadhan activities

The significance of various activities and events during the holy month of Ramadhan plays a pivotal role in uplifting the spirit and fostering positive values within our communities. Today, it is the youth who actively engage in organising a multitude of events that resonate warmly with all segments of society.

This younger generation is more aware and motivated than ever, and there is a growing interest in Ramadhan activities and gatherings characterised by goodness and blessings. From communal Iftar meals to enlightening religious lectures, as well as cultural competitions and literary forums, the holy month serves as a wonderful opportunity to enrich the general culture within our society—be it religious, cultural, or economic.

These initiatives cater to everyone: young and old, men and women, addressing the diverse needs of various groups. There is no doubt about the importance of Ramadhan; it offers a time for fasting and prayer that facilitates psychological and moral purification for Muslims. More than that, it acts as a catalyst for mental development and the strengthening of social connections. After completing the Isha and Tarawih prayers, it’s common for people to linger rather than head straight home; they seek out a myriad of activities and events to partake in.

Khalil Al Hasani observes, “It’s remarkable how individuals from all age groups and genders enthusiastically engage in activities throughout Ramadhan. We greatly appreciate the vital role of our youth in organising these events, often utilising modern technology like audio systems and visual displays to enhance the experience.”

Khalid Al Rawahy adds, “There is something uniquely invigorating about Ramadhan that inspires everyone to get involved in volunteer work and organise religious and cultural competitions. Volunteers compete eagerly, and these events not only promote communication and unity but also reinforce the values intrinsic to Omani society. Activities such as providing Iftar for those fasting and offering assistance to families in need embody a powerful blend of humanitarian spirit and cultural awareness, alongside valuable youth initiatives.”

Engaging in sports during the holy month is regarded as a beneficial habit embraced by many young people, as it greatly contributes to their health. The month brings about a shift in diet and sleep patterns, making it an ideal time for sports and maintaining a health-conscious lifestyle. Consequently, gyms and fitness centres across the Sultanate witness a notable surge in attendance from young people keen to improve their physical fitness, enhance blood circulation, and dispel lethargy.

Sultan Al Balushi, a regular gym-goer, emphasises the importance of staying active at all times, particularly during Ramadhan. He points out that gyms become a bustling hub for young people looking to pursue a range of sports in one shared space.

In Oman, Ramadhan is a highly anticipated period that beautifully intertwines rich cultural traditions with stunning natural beauty. The month transforms Oman into a lively and engaging destination, filled with faith and cultural activities. Ramadhan here goes beyond spiritual reflection; it is also a time for festive celebrations and community gatherings.

This month is a tribute to faith and culture, steeped in original Omani customs that are fundamental to the fabric of Omani society. Such customs come alive during Ramadhan, showcasing vibrant national and religious practices that have been lovingly passed down through generations. The various sports, cultural, and social events not only offer entertainment but also provide young people with the opportunity to hone their talents and develop new skills. Thus, it is imperative to maximise the potential of this holy month by curating cultural programmes that offer manifold benefits.
