Oman warns against bid to displace Palestinians

JEDDAH: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to discuss the developments of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the occupied Palestinian territories.

Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, who headed the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation, stressed its firm and supportive position for implementing the terms of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, the full Israeli withdrawal, return of displaced Palestinians and ensuring delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He cautioned against any attempts to displace Palestinians or violate their rights.

The foreign minister underscored the Sultanate of Oman’s support for the efforts undertaken by the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to confront the Israeli aggression, stressing the need to establish an effective international mechanism to end violations, protect civilians, lift the siege on the Gaza Strip and hold Israeli officials accountable for the crimes committed.

The Extraordinary Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was chaired by Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Relations of Cameroon and Chairman of the current session of the OCI Ministerial Council, in the presence of ministers of foreign affairs.

The meeting was attended by Shaikh Ahmed Hashil al Maskari, Head of the GCC and Regional Neighbourhood Department; Salim bin Mohammed al Busaidy, Consul-General of the Sultanate of Oman in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Deputy Permanent Representative to the OIC in Jeddah as well as a number of officials from the Foreign Ministry.

Sayyid Badr met with Dr Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, on the sidelines of the meeting.

They discussed bilateral relations and ways to foster cooperation between the two friendly countries and exchanged views on the regional and international developments stressing the importance of promoting dialogue and diplomatic efforts to find peaceful and just solutions to conflicts and enhancing opportunities for achieving security, stability and peace.

The foreign minister also met with Bakhtiyor Saidov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. They exchanged views on regional and international developments.

They also discussed aspects of diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, stressing the continuity to bolster economic and investment partnership relations as well as the cultural and scientific cooperation programmes. The meetings were attended by a number of officials from both sides. — ONA
