IBRI: The Municipal Council of Al Dhahirah Governorate convened its second regular session of the year to discuss crucial developments and review responses from government agencies regarding several proposed projects.

The session included a comprehensive presentation from the General Directorate of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources, which outlined the proposed implementation of groundwater recharge and protection dams across the governorate.

These proposed dams are vital to preserving the groundwater resources, supporting the sustainability of the area’s water supply and contributing to the overall water security of Al Dhahirah Governorate.

The dam projects are aligned with the long-term goals of achieving water sustainability in the governorate, safeguarding the environment and supporting agriculture, which is a key industry in the area.

One of the key projects reviewed was the protection dam in the town of Al Dreiz, located in the Wilayat of Ibri. The final designs for this dam were presented, with the construction expected to begin shortly. The dam will play a critical role in managing water resources and protecting the surrounding agricultural land.

Its implementation will ensure the efficient use of water resources, reducing the threat of water scarcity and promoting sustainable practices in the local agricultural community.

The council also discussed proposals for paving the paths of archaeological and historical alleys in Al Dhahirah. The initiative is designed to stimulate domestic tourism and promote investment in the governorate’s rich cultural heritage. By improving accessibility to these historically significant areas, the municipality aims to attract more visitors, both local and international, boosting the tourism sector and creating new opportunities for the local economy.

The session also addressed a request to expand high-speed Internet services to several villages within the governorate, ensuring that more communities have access to modern communication technologies. The members also reviewed a list of service requests submitted to the council, discussing the implementation of recommendations from the third meeting of the Governorate Development and Promotion Committee. The overall focus of the session was on ensuring that the governorate’s infrastructure meets the growing demands of its residents and supports sustainable economic growth. - ONA
