Dialogue session explores role of SMEs in real estate

With over 9,774 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in the real estate sector, a dialogue session organised by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning aimed to address challenges, explore new opportunities and develop policies to support entrepreneurs in the sector.

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority hosted its tenth dialogue session with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, focusing on strengthening communication between stakeholders, identifying challenges faced by entrepreneurs and fostering innovative solutions for the real estate development sector.

Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shueili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, and Halima bint Rashid al Zariyah, Chairperson of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), attended the session along with representatives from relevant government agencies and SMEs owners involved in real estate activities.

The session was part of a broader initiative to enhance the business environment, improve the attractiveness of the sector to SMEs and create policies that support entrepreneurs. It also aimed to identify promising investment opportunities in real estate development while encouraging innovative ideas that contribute to sectoral growth.

Speakers at the session presented key statistics on the real estate sector’s future investment potential. According to data from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, the total number of SMEs registered in the real estate sector stood at 9,774 as of December 2024. Of these, 8,125 were small enterprises, while 140 were classified as medium enterprises. The number of micro-enterprises in the sector reached 398,142, highlighting the vast engagement of entrepreneurs in real estate-related activities.

The session covered several crucial topics, including usufruct land grants for SMEs holding entrepreneurship cards. By bringing together key stakeholders, the session served as a platform to discuss the evolving needs of real estate entrepreneurs, identify solutions to existing challenges and enhance collaboration between SMEs and government institutions to drive sustainable development in the sector.
