The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) honoured pioneers of social responsibility at the ‘Pioneers of Social Responsibility’ forum, a two-day event aimed at increasing awareness of social responsibility and its role in sustainable development. Under the auspices of Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shueili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, and attended by Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, the forum sought to highlight best practices and foster collaboration in achieving Oman Vision 2040.
The event focused on structuring and organising social responsibility projects to maximise their impact. It emphasised the importance of partnerships between the public, private and civil society sectors to drive meaningful initiatives. Discussions also covered the need for governance frameworks to ensure transparency and accountability in social responsibility programmes.
Shaikh Rashid bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development, highlighted the ministry’s efforts to develop governance mechanisms for social responsibility programmes, ensuring alignment with national priorities. He noted that these initiatives are integrated across governorates through a unified national electronic platform, enhancing coordination and efficiency.
From an economic perspective, Haitham bin Salem al Salmi, CEO of the Muscat Stock Exchange, emphasised that financial markets now play a key role in promoting sustainability. He stated that the exchange has established a specialised centre for sustainable investment, focusing on projects that contribute to national growth and social impact.
Dr Yousef al Fulaiti, General Supervisor of the Legislation, Judiciary and Oversight Priority Support Team for Oman Vision 2040, outlined key welfare and social protection objectives.
Meanwhile, Eng Mohammed al Gharibi, Director of External Affairs at Oman Oil Development Company, highlighted the role of civil society institutions, such as charitable organisations and Omani women’s associations, in addressing social challenges.
A key highlight of the forum was the recognition of organisations that have demonstrated outstanding contributions to social responsibility. Honorees included Oman Oil Development Company, Saud Bahwan Charity Foundation, Oman India Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO), Bank Muscat, Ishraqa Foundation for Community Development (Khimji Ramdas), OQ Group, Ooredoo, Omantel, Shell Oman Marketing Company, and several others. These organisations were acknowledged for their dedication to social welfare, community empowerment and sustainable development.
Sponsors of the forum and training session providers were also recognised for their contributions in advancing social responsibility initiatives.
Hala al Wahaibi, Director of the Social Responsibility Organisation Department at the Ministry of Social Development, emphasised the forum’s role in strengthening national efforts. “This platform highlights the developmental dimensions of social responsibility and enables institutions to learn from successful programmes,” she stated.
The forum will continue with workshops covering social responsibility strategy design, governance from a leadership perspective and innovative approaches to achieving sustainable development goals.
By fostering collaboration and recognising impactful initiatives, Oman is reinforcing its commitment to ethical and sustainable growth, ensuring that social responsibility remains a key driver of national progress.
