Barka Desalination boosts community support

With Ramadhan approaching, the initiatives will play a vital role in alleviating hardships for underprivileged families, reinforcing the spirit of giving and collective responsibility

Barka Desalination Company has launched a series of charitable initiatives at the office of the Wali of Barka. The event, held under the auspices of Sayyid Tariq bin Mahmoud al Busaidy, Wali of Barka, was attended by the company’s CEO, Asim bin Ali al Rashdi.

These initiatives are designed to support families registered with the Barka Charity Team and the Zakat and Charity Committee, focusing on three key areas of food baskets, Iftar Saem (fast-breaking meals) and Eid support for orphans.

During the launch, Sayyid Tariq bin Mahmoud al Busaidy praised the company’s efforts, emphasising that such initiatives set a precedent for other businesses to follow.

“This initiative will inspire other companies, particularly those operating in the region, to contribute to charitable efforts, especially as the holy month approaches and the needs of families increase,” he said.

He highlighted the critical role of the private sector in supporting vulnerable communities, noting that these initiatives foster social cohesion and strengthen the values of generosity and giving.

Dr Saleh Hamed al Alawi echoed this sentiment, stating that such efforts reflect the company’s evolving approach to corporate social responsibility.

“Barka Desalination Company maintains a strong connection with its community. It is not just an isolated entity; it has become an integral part of the society in which it operates, playing a significant role in social support and religious observance during the holy month.”

Dr Al Alawi emphasised the company’s focus on empowering Omani entrepreneurs and small business owners, recognising their impact on economic and social well-being. CEO Asim bin Ali al Rashdi reiterated that community service remains a core pillar of the company’s mission, ensuring that aid reaches those who need it most through collaboration with the Wali’s office and local charities. “We are committed to making these initiatives as impactful as possible by working closely with relevant authorities to maximise their reach and effectiveness,” he said.

Operations Manager Sergyous Kirollos further stressed that social responsibility is embedded in the company’s long-term strategy.

“Our commitment extends beyond direct assistance. We aim to support sustainable development initiatives that enhance the quality of life in the community,” he noted.

With Ramadhan approaching, these initiatives will play a vital role in alleviating hardships for underprivileged families, reinforcing the spirit of giving and collective responsibility within Omani society. By encouraging other companies to take part in similar efforts, Barka Desalination Company hopes to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment, bridging the gap between the private sector and the local community.
