AL HAMRA: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), represented by the Oman Sports and Active Society Committee, organised the sports march event in cooperation with Al Hamra Sports and Cultural Club and Al Hamra Mountain Sports Team, which witnessed wide participation from various segments of society in a distinctive sports and social atmosphere. The event was held on Saturday morning, under the auspices of Shaikh Sulaiman bin Said al Azri, Wali of Al Hamra, and in the presence of a number of officials and community and sports figures.

The participants set off on a 3-kilometre sports march, starting from Al Habl Park in Al Hamra next to the Eid prayer ground, passing by Shariat Al Falaj, then the old neighbourhood and the old market, extending to the farms and reaching the water mill, and ending at the starting point in Al Habl Park. The event aimed to enhance physical fitness, spread awareness of the importance of sports and encourage individuals to adopt a healthy lifestyle, in addition to enjoying the beauty of nature and local heritage.

The event included many accompanying activities that added a heritage and social character to the event; where attendees enjoyed traditional folk games, a peg-catching show, in addition to a group of entertainment activities dedicated to children, which enhanced the atmosphere of joy and interaction between participants of different ages. The event organisers were keen to provide all means of support to make the event a success; where the path was secured and guidance was provided to the participants in cooperation with the relevant authorities, to ensure the smooth and safe running of the event. The participants also interacted positively with the event, stressing the importance of such activities in enhancing community awareness of the importance of sports and its role in improving public health and strengthening social ties. This event comes within the ongoing efforts of the Oman Olympic Committee to promote the culture of community sports and encourage different age groups to practice physical activity, within the framework of a vision aimed at making sports a way of life.
