IBRA: Badar al Alawi's powerful shot from outside the penalty area put Al Shabab in the honouring list of HM Cup winners ending their 54-year wait following the thrilling final against Seeb at the Ibra Sports Complex in Ibra at Al Sharqiyah North Governorate on Thursday night. The triumph meant Barka and Wadi Al Maawil based team managed to lift their maiden title of the coveted cup after 54 years since the top domestic football tournament began in the Sultanate of Oman.

The fans in both wilayats and the Al Batinah South Governorate overall celebrated on Friday this outstanding accomplishment. The head coach of Al Shabab, Hassan Rutam, and his technical coaching staff could manage to overcome all the challenges in this season to lead Al Shabab for their first title at HM Cup.



EXCEEDING PERFORMANCE

Ahmed al Owaisi, Chairman of Al Shabab Club, thanked all players, technical staff headed by coach, board members and the loyal fans for this accomplishment. “All the players promised me that they will deliver the cup to Al Shabab and they delivered their promise. Special thanks to them for their exceeding performance inside the field and another thanks goes to the head coach who ensured the achievement until it happened,” he added.

“This coveted title and major achievement came to the club after a long wait. Despite the challenges and the team's drop in the beginning of the season due to changing of 70 per cent of the team members and some difficulties in the league competition, I was confident in the team members to deliver this success. At Al Shabab Club, we introduced a hashtag under the title of 'We want it for Al Shabab' on social media and there was a positive involvement from everyone. This achievement will motivate Al Shabab players to deliver more in the upcoming events,” Al Shabab chief ended.



Following the match conclusion, Oman head coach Rasheed Jaber announced the squad for the upcoming domestic camp which included some players from Al Shabab including: Majid al Saadi, Khalid al Buraiki, Yousef al Malki, Mohammed al Ghafri and Hatim al Roushdi.

Oman national team player and Al Shabab defender, Khalid al Buraiki, expressed his positive feelings on this historic achievement. “This is the maiden title for the club at the HM Cup event. Definitely, it means a lot for us and it happened after many years. We would like to dedicate this achievement to the fans, the chairman and board directors, technical staff of the team and to everyone in Barka and Wadi Al Maawil,” he said.

“My father attended the match and I was very optimistic with his presence. He deserves this win and I want to thank all the fans who supported us from the field and behind the screens,” he added.
