MUSCAT: The sky over Ibra Sports Complex lit up with a dazzling fireworks and laser show on Thursday night marking the conclusion of the 2024-2025 HM Football Cup Championship. The event finished in a spectacular celebration as the winning team Al Shabab lifted their maiden title in a historic achievement.
The venue was crowded with enthusiastic fans as each team’s audience filling 40 per cent of the allocated seating in the venue while the remaining 20 per cent was taken by Al Sharqiyah North spectators. A total of 12,160 spectators attended the match.
Oman football legend Ali al Habsi, who hails from Al Mudhaibi – one of the wilayats of Al Sharqiyah North Governorate – brought the coveted cup to the green field ahead of the match start.
During the half-time break, national songs were played in the air alongside the light show which provided an entertainment environment as fans joined in and interacted with the music until the second half began.
The awards ceremony commenced after international referee Omar al Yaqoobi announced the end of the match. The laser show set the stage with some songs as the trophy presentations began.
Shaikh Al Fadhl bin Mohammed al Harthy, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, the chief guest, awarded silver medals to the Seeb players while Al Shabab players received gold medals and the coveted cup. The final match was attended by various officials, top dignitaries, sports figures and both sides' fans. After the podium ceremony, the organising committee announced the winners of the two vehicles in the raffle draw.
The final match featured an important decision when referee Omar al Yaqoobi consulted the VAR which was implemented for first time in this season to review a potential red card for Seeb’s defender Ahmed al Khamisi. After reviewing the footage, the referee determined that Al Khamisi’s handball challenge against Al Shabab's Emerson warranted a red card.
