Muscat: The third edition of the Gulf Tkatuf Exhibition, in collaboration with strategic partner Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), began on Thursday morning with the inaugural ceremony held under the auspices of Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy, at Fraser Suites, Muscat.

The event was attended by Ambassador Dr Jumaa bin Ahmed al Kaabi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Masoud al Mazrouei, Head of Economic Relations at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, as well as representatives from participating Gulf countries and sponsors.

Speaking to the Observer, Dr Al Saqri emphasised the importance of such exhibitions that promote SMEs. 'These exhibitions play a crucial role in showcasing the products and services of small and medium enterprises. Tkatuf has been successfully supporting SMEs for three years now, and even before that. SMEs are significant contributors to all economies, with some economies seeing them contribute up to 90 per cent of the GDP. They are vital for job creation in many economies, so it is essential to support them,' he said.

The three-day exhibition is organised by Links for Social Initiatives, specialising in event management, under the personal supervision of HH Sayyidah Hujaija bint Jaifer al Said.

The aim of the exhibition is to support small and medium enterprises in promoting their products and services, exchanging experiences and skills, creating business opportunities and developing collaborative methods to expand their projects.

'We aim to establish a continuous relationship with exhibitors and participants in every exhibition and event by providing support and assistance services. Our goal is to provide community service in all our endeavours,' Sayyidah Hujaija said.

The exhibition showcases 200 Omani projects with accredited trademarks from within the Sultanate of Oman, as well as projects from various Gulf countries, reflecting their belief in the local market's purchasing power and their engagement with Omani youth in entrepreneurial ideas.

According to the organisers, one of the main goals of the exhibition is to establish partnerships and collaboration pathways with institutions that have related orientations or fields to achieve impact and drive change for the participating projects.

'This initiative aligns with the keen interest of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in supporting small and medium enterprises, which are considered the primary and essential drivers of the national economy,' noted Sayyidah Hujaija.

'In this exhibition, we have provided the opportunity for a number of students, in coordination with Oman Tourism College, to train and qualify in event management and coordination operations,' she explained.
