MUSCAT: Oman club will eye to register the second successive victory as they will take on Qatar’s Al Arabi club on Monday as part of the second round matches for group B at the 41st Gulf Club Winners’ Cup Handball Championship which is underway in Muscat until February 24. For the same group, Kuwait SC will meet Dibba Al Huson from UAE and the match will kick off at 4:00 pm.

The hosts team, Oman Club, will face a tough test in their second match against Qatar’s Al Arabi and the match will begin at 7:00 pm. Oman Club began their campaign on a perfect note with a thrilling 29-26 victory over Dibba Al Huson. The first half ended in a 15-15 draw, but Oman Club asserted their dominance in the second half, securing a well-earned win and proving their credentials as serious title contenders. Oman club players delivered a strong performance led by Algerian star Mohamed Ihab, who named as match best player. Teammates Taher al Hadidi, Bahraini Ali Abdullah Ali and Asaad al Hosni also played crucial roles in securing the win. The win will motivate the team to deliver outmost performance against Qatari team.



On the other hand, Qatar’s Al Arabi will not be an easy opponent. The Qatari side edged past Kuwait SC 34-33 in their opening match, showcasing resilience and skill. Al Arabi’s squad included standout players such as Vladan Lipovina, who won the best player award in their previous game, along with Nidhal al Hadi and Ahmed al Menyawi. Both teams coming off strong performances, so this matchup is expected to be highly competitive. Oman Club will look to capitalise on home advantage using the support of their fans to boost their chances of securing a semifinal spot.

Speaking ahead of the match, Oman Club head coach, Algerian Ibrahim Abu Derali, said that the match is going to be very tough for both teams. “ The two sides are very eager to secure qualification to the next round and I praised on players' determination and high-level performance in the previous game. My instructions were very clear to the players to focus on correcting mistakes from the last match while reinforcing the team’s strengths. It is really critical to capitalise on scoring opportunities and exploiting opponents' errors to ensure victory. The players are requested to express confidence in the team’s ability to give their best and meet the expectations of their fans,” he ended.



On the other hand, Kuwait SC and Dibba Al Huson will battle for their first win after suffering narrow defeats in their opening matches. Kuwait SC suffered to a 34-33 loss against Al Arabi, while Dibba Al Hosun fell to Oman Club 29-26. Both teams understand that another loss would significantly dash their chances of advancing to the next stage. Despite their losses, both teams showed strong performances in their opening games and boast talented squads. Kuwait SC features standout players such as Mishari al Shammari, Yaqoub Abbas, and Frankis Marzo, while Dibba Al Huson relies on key contributors like Hubert Mondo, Abdullah al Nuaimi, Ali Abdulqader and Ahmed Said.
