Al Bashayer dominate Ahli Sidab to reach final
MUSCAT: Al Bashayer Club secured its place in the final of the 15th edition of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) Basketball Shield for the 2024-2025 season after a resounding victory over Ahli Sidab with a score of 75-36. The match took place at the secondary hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.
From the outset, Al Bashayer asserted its dominance over the game, winning all quarters and benefiting from the outstanding performances of its players, notably Nooh al Mahrouqi, Smakelo Brian, Hadeed Bait Bakhit, Slavin Kobkovic, and Osama Al Riyami. Meanwhile, Ahli Sidab's standout player was Haitham Bani Araba, who made efforts to reduce the deficit.
The match began with high intensity as Al Bashayer opened the scoring early through Nooh al Mahrouqi and Hadeed Bait Bakhit, securing four consecutive points. Ahli Sidab responded with two points from under the basket and an additional free throw, narrowing the gap to 3-4. However, Al Bashayer quickly regained control, adding five quick points through Nooh al Mahrouqi, Slavin Kobkovic, and Hadeed Bait Bakhit, extending their lead to 12-3. Ahli Sidab attempted to fight back with a two-point shot by Haitham Bani Araba, but Al Bashayer maintained its aggressive approach, scoring 13 unanswered points thanks to the speed and accuracy of its players, while Ahli Sidab managed only two additional points. The first quarter ended with a commanding lead for Al Bashayer at 25-7.
Ahli Sidab opened the second quarter with a three-pointer by Abdulaziz al Balushi, but Al Bashayer immediately responded with a three-pointer from Osama al Riyami, maintaining a 28-10 lead. Ahli Sidab continued to push forward, with Haitham Bani Araba adding two more points, yet Al Bashayer struck back with another three-pointer from Smakelo Brian, widening the gap to 31-12. Despite a slight improvement in Ahli Sidab's performance during this quarter, Al Bashayer's solid defence and ability to exploit open spaces helped them end the first half comfortably ahead at 40-15.
The third quarter saw an exchange of attacks between both teams, with Ahli Sidab managing to score a three-pointer through Adel al Batashi, attempting to cut the deficit. However, Al Bashayer continued to dictate the game by adding four consecutive points through Slavin Kobkovic and Nooh al Mahrouqi. Despite Ahli Sidab’s attempts to break through Al Bashayer’s defence, the latter remained more effective in capitalising on fast-break opportunities, scoring consistently from various distances. The third quarter concluded with Al Bashayer firmly in control at 56-23.
In the final quarter, Al Bashayer continued its dominance, adding 19 more points, while Ahli Sidab managed only 13 points.
