The Oman Open Tennis Championship for the Under-18 Girls category concludes on Wednesday with the final between Areen al Azkawi and Aisha al Busaidy. This decisive clash will take place on the main court at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.
Over the past few days, the tournament has witnessed intense competition across various categories, with the remaining divisions advancing to the semifinals after thrilling matches. In the Under-18 Boys category, Saeed al Marjibi secured victory over Elias al Touqi 5-10, 7-5, 10-5. Meanwhile, in the Under-19 category, Hood al Hashmi defeated Savannah McCurash 5-0, while Omar al Shaibani overcame Hatim al Rahbi with a 5-1 win.
In the women's section, Aisha al Busaidy continued her impressive run by defeating Emily McCurash 6-3, 6-2. On the men's side, Younis al Rawahi dominated his match against Laurent with a sweeping 6-0, 6-0 victory. The professionals' category witnessed a strong battle, where Joseph Peter triumphed over Brendan Van 6-3, 6-3, before Muneer al Rawahi continued his winning streak by beating Joseph Peter 4-0.
In the Men's Over-65 category, Nasser al Rashid beat Madani al Barqi 6-0, 6-1, while Ian Lakin won against Thiagarajan 6-1, 6-0.
Faisal al Balushi, Director of the Oman Open Tennis Championship, emphasised that the tournament showcased advanced technical levels and fierce competition across all categories, reflecting the growth of tennis in Oman and the increasing interest in the sport. Al Balushi added, 'the anticipated final of the Under-18 Girls category will be one of the most competitive matches of the tournament. Both have demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the competition, earning their place in this decisive stage through their strong gameplay and high concentration.
