The Oman Hockey Association (OHA) is gearing up to host the FIH Hockey Men’s Nations Cup 2 Oman 2025, which will be staged from February 17 to 23 at the state-of-the-art Oman Hockey Stadium. With less than 17 days to go, the inaugural edition of the tournament is set to begin in Muscat, marking a significant milestone for emerging hockey nations. This event presents a fresh opportunity for eight ambitious teams, ranked below those competing in the FIH Hockey Nations Cup, to make their mark on the international stage. The first edition of the championship will feature eight teams vying for the title and promotion to the FIH Hockey Nations Cup in 2026. Pool A comprises Egypt, Chile, China and Poland, while Pool B features the hosts Oman, Austria, Scotland and the United States. The tournament will commence with group-stage matches, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semi-finals. The knockout stage will follow, leading to the grand final on February 23, where the first-ever FIH Hockey Men’s Nations Cup 2 champion will be crowned. This event will serve as a pathway for the participating teams to ascend to the FIH Hockey Nations Cup and ultimately to the FIH Hockey Pro League, offering them the chance to test their skills against some of the best teams in the sport. FIH awarded Oman the rights to host this inaugural edition of the event, recognising the Sultanate of Oman’s strong hockey infrastructure and development. The Sultanate of Oman, represented by OHA, has successfully hosted several regional and international hockey events, including the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers and the inaugural edition of the FIH Hockey5s World Cup in 2024, making it an ideal venue for such a prestigious competition. FIH President Tayyab Ikram affirmed that the FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2 will provide a unique opportunity for teams ranked just below the FIH Hockey Nations Cup to showcase their talent on a global stage. “This new event enables us to further promote growth and competitiveness within the sport as we bring international exposure to more and more countries around the world. I am sure their performances will not only highlight the skill and talent they possess but also set a new benchmark for future editions of the competition,” he said. “On behalf of FIH, I would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman, and in particular His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, as well as the Local Organising Committee led by the Oman Hockey Association Chairman, Dr Marwan bin Juma al Juma, for welcoming us once more to their beautiful country,” he added. On the other hand, Dr Marwan bin Juma al Juma, Chairman of OHA, stated that hosting the FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2 in the Sultanate of Oman is an exceptional opportunity to showcase the nation’s organisational capabilities on the international stage. “We have demonstrated our ability to organise global sporting events with a high level of professionalism and excellence through our successful hosting of previous tournaments, including the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers and the inaugural edition of the FIH Hockey5s World Cup in 2024. These tournaments are not just sporting events but also opportunities to highlight the rich tourism, economic and cultural assets that our country enjoys, in addition to contributing to strengthening the position of the Sultanate of Oman as a global sports destination,” he ended
