Sprinter Ali clocks 6.60 secs to win 60m silver in Astana

Oman’s Ali al Balushi clocked 6.60 seconds in 60m dash.

Oman’s young sprinter Ali al Balushi earned silver medal in the Men's 60 Metres event at the Astana Indoor Meet in Kazakhstan. Al Balushi’s splendid performance saw him finish the short sprint in 6.60 seconds. Kishane Thompson from Jamaica claimed the top spot with a timing of 6.56 seconds to clinch gold medal while Japanese sprinter Shuhei Tada got bronze as he ended third in 6.62 seconds.
Ali, under technical guidance of coach Fahad al Mashaykhi, was among the sprinters in round one at heat one. He finished third in the heat with a timing of 6.68 seconds while Kishane Thompson earned first place with 6.58 seconds and followed by American sprinter Demek Kemp with a timing of 6.65 seconds.
The action of Men's 60 Metres event took place at the Track & Field Complex Kazakhstan, Astana city. Omani sprinter Ali al Balushi took part in the last Olympic Games Paris 2024. He had concluded his Olympic debut at Paris 2024 Olympics with a positive performance finishing in sixth place as he clocked 10.26 seconds in the first round of men’s 100 m event in heats 3 at Stade de France.
Ali’s journey was bright in 60m indoor race event as he focused during the previous years in these kind of races. He broke Oman record with a timing of 6.58 seconds in January last year during a training camp in Turkey. Then, he had attended Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Iran where he won first place clocking a time of 6.50 seconds to set both Omani and Gulf records.
He had several camps domestically from March to April last year besides some international athletics meets including the Grand Prix in Dubai and few camps in Europe including two camps in Greece, one in the Czech Republic and one in Germany achieving his best time of 10.17 seconds. Sprinter Ali had competed at Arab Youth Championships in Egypt last July where he managed to win two gold medals with timing of 10.00 seconds in the 100m event and 20.68 seconds in 200m.
