IZKI, JAN 27

In the heart of old village of Al Souq Al Qadeem in the Wilayat of Izki, the first phase of a new sports and health walkway project has been completed. The walkway runs alongside the historic Falaj Al Ghadeer. It provide visitors with a scenic path surrounded by lush palm groves. The initiative reflects the community's commitment to health, sustainability, and preserving Omani heritage.

The project, supervised by Dr Suleiman al Fahdi, aims to create a safe and inspiring space to promote a healthier lifestyle. As part of the initiative, nine local families participated in a beautification competition. Each family was assigned a section of the path to decorate using sustainable local materials. This collaboration added unique artistic touches to the walkway and fostered a sense of community pride and ownership.

The 2-km walkway has been paved with interlocking tiles to ensure accessibility for all age groups. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Sahwa Team and residents of the village. In the coming phases, plans include installing lightings, setting up of rest areas, and planting trees to offer shade along the path.

Dr Al Fahdi, the project supervisor, said: “Izki Walkway is an important step towards promoting public health and achieving sustainable development. It is not just a sports track, but a space that provides opportunities for social interaction, relaxation, and enjoying nature. The project also enhances the attractiveness of the area to tourists and residents alike, opening up prospects for local investment in the future. Upon completion of its next phases, Izki Walkway will become a model for community development initiatives that achieve a balance between heritage and modernity that contribute to building a healthy and happy society.”
