Masirah Island is hosting the 'Masirah Winter Forum,' an event that beautifully bridges the past and present. The forum provides visitors with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the island’s rich heritage, explore traditional crafts, and engage with the vibrant small and medium enterprise (SME) sector that is playing a crucial role in supporting the local economy and achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

The forum serves as a dynamic platform to showcase the island’s unparalleled tourism potential while simultaneously highlighting the value of preserving traditional crafts that have been passed down through generations. The event underscores the critical role of SMEs and productive families in bolstering Oman’s economic sustainability, promoting entrepreneurship, and empowering local communities.

Adel bin Khadem al Zar'i, a member of the organising committee, emphasised the forum’s key objectives, stating that the event aims to 'highlight the tourism components of Masirah Island, as well as showcase the popular heritage and crafts that reflect the island’s history and culture.' Al Zar’i pointed out that the forum celebrates the essence of Omani heritage while offering visitors a chance to connect with the island’s rich traditions, including its marine arts, which are integral to Masirah’s cultural identity.

The forum also provides a significant boost to productive families and job seekers by creating opportunities for them to display their handmade products and gain practical experience in a broader market setting. “This event not only helps participants generate additional income but also allows them to expand their entrepreneurial skills,” Al Zar’i noted. These efforts align with Oman’s strategic vision to empower its citizens and foster economic growth.

Jokha bint Salem Al Araimiyah, President of the Omani Women’s Association in Masirah, highlighted the forum’s role in empowering Omani women and supporting productive families. “By involving Omani women in such events, we contribute to raising economic awareness within the community while enhancing the role of small and medium enterprises,” Al Araimi said. She stressed that these platforms provide a unique opportunity for participants to showcase their products, generate income, and explore future job prospects.

Visitors to the Masirah Winter Forum are treated to a fascinating journey through the island’s history and culture. In the heritage village, attendees can explore a wide range of family-made products, including intricately designed incense burners, kohl sticks, textiles, and perfume, which Oman is famous for. Artisans demonstrate their skills on-site, offering an educational and immersive experience that blends tradition with creativity.

Moza al Amri, one of the forum’s participants, expressed her excitement about being part of the event. “Such forums provide us with golden opportunities to showcase our products to a larger audience, exchange experiences with fellow artisans, and learn from their expertise,” she said.

Beyond handicrafts, the forum also features vibrant cultural displays of marine arts, traditional dances, and chants that celebrate Masirah’s rich maritime heritage. These performances vividly narrate stories of the sea, fishing, and trade, captivating audiences with their authenticity and historical significance.

The Masirah Winter Forum is more than just a cultural celebration — it is a cornerstone for economic development and community empowerment. By providing a platform for productive families and SMEs, the forum contributes to diversifying Oman’s economy and achieving the broader goals of Oman Vision 2040. Events like these are instrumental in supporting local industries, creating job opportunities, and enhancing entrepreneurship within the Sultanate.

The forum also shines a spotlight on the role of Omani women in fostering economic growth. By participating in such events, women entrepreneurs and artisans are empowered to expand their reach, improve their economic standing, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Masirah Island’s unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and entrepreneurial spirit makes it a prime destination for events like the Winter Forum. The event successfully combines tourism promotion with economic development, creating an environment where culture and commerce thrive together.

As Oman continues to implement its Vision 2040 strategy, events such as the Masirah Winter Forum play an essential role in driving economic sustainability, fostering innovation, and preserving the country’s rich heritage. By empowering SMEs and productive families, the forum not only uplifts the local community but also strengthens the national economy, ensuring a bright and sustainable future for Oman.
