UNSUNG HEROES

Muscat, Jan 22

Despite the variety of activities, the abundance of restaurants and the high number of visitors at the Muscat Nights Festival, cleanliness remains a prominent feature across all venues, thanks to the tireless efforts of cleaning workers who work relentlessly to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the locations.

Hundreds of cleaning workers are distributed across various festival sites, such as Al Qurum Natural Park, Al Naseem Public Park, Al Amerat Public Park and the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. They operate according to precise schedules around the clock to ensure that facilities remain clean and safe for visitors.

Their work includes waste collection, cleaning pathways and continuously sanitising public areas. Additionally, strategically placed waste bins are provided to facilitate proper waste disposal.

Many visitors expressed their admiration for the high level of cleanliness and organisation at the event, praising the tremendous efforts of the cleaning teams in ensuring a comfortable and safe environment for everyone. Visitors also commended the swift response of the teams in addressing any cleanliness related concerns, reflecting a high level of professionalism in event management.

In this context, Fatma al Harthy, one of the attendees, stated, 'Despite the large number of visitors and the numerous food stalls offering a variety of foods and drinks, the place is completely free of scattered waste.' She also noted the continuous presence of cleaning teams patrolling the area and promptly dealing with any litter, reflecting Muscat Municipality’s great attention to maintaining cleanliness and providing an enjoyable and safe experience for visitors.

Fatma added, 'The strategic placement of trash bins and their easy accessibility significantly contributed to keeping the area clean. I did not feel any crowding or chaos; the organisation was meticulous, starting from the parking areas to the arrangement of booths, making the experience smoother and more comfortable.' Rashid al Shehhi, another festival visitor, praised the organisation and cleanliness at the event, saying, 'I was amazed by the level of organisation and the precise distribution of facilities and services, in addition to the remarkable cleanliness throughout the venue. This paints a bright image and encourages visitors to attend the festival annually, especially with such great attention to providing a comfortable and safe environment for visitors of all ages.' Al Shehhi added, 'The cleaning workers deserve all the appreciation and respect for their continuous efforts despite the crowds and numerous events. I noticed their constant presence across the festival grounds, promptly handling any waste, reflecting their commitment to maintaining cleanliness and offering the best experience for visitors.' He also emphasised the importance of visitor cooperation with these efforts, stating, 'It is our collective responsibility to ease the burden on the cleaning teams by disposing of waste in the numerous trash bins spread throughout the venue, which have been thoughtfully placed for everyone's convenience. Through this cooperation, we preserve the beauty of the festival and contribute to the sustainability of these distinguished events that reflect Oman’s culture and heritage.' It is worth noting that Muscat Municipality intensified its efforts during the festival by increasing the number of cleaning teams and distributing equipment to ensure swift and efficient performance. This has significantly contributed to creating a clean and safe environment for everyone. These efforts reflect Oman’s commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation, even during major events, affirming that the success of any festival is incomplete without the contribution of these unsung heroes working behind the scenes to create exceptional atmospheres.
