MUSCAT, JAN 20

As part of the ongoing efforts to realise Oman Vision 2040, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI), in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy in Muscat and the Ataturk Foundation for Culture, Language and History, inaugurated the Omani-Turkish ‘Knowledge Dialogue’ Forum.

The three-day event aims to strengthen academic and research cooperation between Oman and Türkiye, opening new horizons for partnerships that contribute to sustainable development.

Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, highlighted the forum's importance in reflecting the historical ties between the two nations. She emphasised that the event is a direct implementation of leadership recommendations and aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 to enhance education and scientific research as key drivers of development.

Key topics of the forum include literature, translation, historical relations, innovation in aviation, medical tourism and advanced medical technologies. The sessions also showcase Turkish higher education institutions and research centres, fostering the exchange of ideas and experiences.

Dr Rahma further noted that Oman Vision 2040 seeks to improve the global ranking of Omani universities through quality scientific research and academic publishing. She stressed that collaborations with Turkish universities, such as student exchanges and joint academic programmes, will significantly enhance Oman’s educational landscape, positioning the Sultanate of Oman as a regional hub for higher education.

Dr Muhammad Hakim Oglu, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Oman, praised the forum as a testament to the strong ties between the two countries. He noted that it reflects the spirit of cooperation inspired by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s visit to Türkiye in November 2024, further strengthening academic and cultural relations.

Prof Dr Derya Aros, President of the Ataturk Foundation for Culture, Language, and History, underscored the depth of historical relations between Oman and Türkiye. He highlighted that academic partnerships serve as an extension of these ties, particularly in areas like literature, history, and scientific innovation.

The forum also provided a platform for Omani and Turkish researchers to explore potential joint programs. Professor Maryam al Hashimi, a translation researcher, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Turkish universities, emphasising that such initiatives enrich academic content and improve education quality.

Recommendations from the first day focused on developing joint academic programmes, increasing student exchanges, and fostering scientific research collaborations in fields such as science and technology.

The Omani-Turkish 'Knowledge Dialogue' Forum stands as a significant milestone in achieving Oman Vision 2040, contributing to the Sultanate of Oman’s goals of building a sustainable knowledge economy rooted in innovation and scientific research.
