Oman and Finland to boost economic ties

Muscat: Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), and Wille Rydman, Minister of Economic Affairs and Employment in the Republic of Finland, on Thursday discussed ways of developing relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Finland in economic fields and utilising joint investment opportunities.
In their meeting, held at “Invest Oman Lounge” in Muscat, the two ministers laid emphasis on enhancing cooperation in the field of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and means of supporting innovation and digital transition.
They also sought options for consolidating investment in the fields of information technology, mining and education, as well as prospects for exchanging expertise in the field of entrepreneurship incubators, due to their effective role in supporting the national economy.
The meeting also touched on opportunities for developing the communications sector, and vocational and technical education, in addition to establishing partnerships between educational institutions in the two countries in a manner that contributes to empowering national talents and supporting knowledge-based economy.
The meeting was attended by Halima bint Rashid al Zariyah, Chairperson of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA); Ibtisam bint Ahmed al Faroojiyah, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Investment Promotion; Anu Eerika Viljanen, Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to the Sultanate of Oman; Abdul Ridha Mustafa Sultan, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Finland to the Sultanate of Oman; and representatives of the public and private sectors in the two countries.
During the visit, the Finnish delegation was briefed about “Invest Oman Lounge” and the services it offers to investors. Through a visual presentation, the guests also took note of major economic opportunities available in the Sultanate of Oman, investment incentives, the programme of investor residency and the facilities that abound in special economic zones and free zones.
The Finnish delegation had a close look at the outstanding role of “Invest Oman Lounge” in supporting investors, as well as the facility’s streamlined mechanisms that ensure quality and transparency in providing services.
The visit of the Finnish delegation was in pursuance of joint efforts to upgrade economic and investment cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Finland in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries and realises their development goals. — ONA
