Oman’s Al Salam Club achieved a significant victory over UAE’s Baniyas Club with a clean sweep of three sets to none in the opening match of the 43rd Arab Volleyball Championship. The tournament is being held in Doha, Qatar, with the participation of 15 clubs representing 10 Arab countries and it will continue until January 25. Matches are taking place at Al Arabi and Qatar Sports Club venues.

Al Salam Club’s standout performers included Osama al Maamari, Majid al Shibli, the Iranian professional Safa and Mohammed al Muqbali, whose exceptional performances greatly contributed to this well earned victory.

Al Salam started the match with a powerful offensive display, dominating the game-play through strong serves and solid blocking, which allowed them to widen the score gap early on. They secured the first set with a convincing 25-15 win, capitalising on Baniyas’ repeated errors in ball reception.

The second set saw a more balanced performance from both teams. Baniyas Club attempted to regain momentum and delivered a stronger performance than in the first set, relying on fast attacks and short passes. However, Al Salam managed to clinch the set by a narrow margin, winning 25-23, thanks to their high concentration and well organised team play.

Entering the third set with strong determination to close out the match, Al Salam showcased clear superiority with powerful spikes and solid defence. The Omani players left no room for Baniyas to mount a comeback, sealing the set comfortably at 25-14 and confirming their dominance and well deserved victory.

The tournament draw placed Al Salam Club in Group A alongside Libya’s Al Sweihli and UAE’s Baniyas. Oman’s Al Seeb Club was drawn into Group B with Kuwait SC, Libya’s Al Hilal, and Egypt’s Zamalek. Group C includes Iraq’s Erbil, Bahrain’s Darkulaib, Egypt’s Al Ahly, and Qatar’s Police Club. Group D features UAE’s Al Jazira alongside Palestine’s Gaza Club, Kuwait’s Burgan Club, and Qatar SC.

The group stage matches will continue until January 20, with the quarterfinals and placement matches scheduled for January 22. The semifinals and additional placement matches will be held on January 24.
