Muscat: Dusty conditions prevail over coastal areas of the Sea of Oman, leading to a decrease in horizontal visibility.
Motorists have been urged to drive safely as moderate rains have been also reported from Rustaq and surrounding areas.
'When visibility is low, slow down, use appropriate lights, and keep a safe distance,' Royal Oman Police said in a statement.
'The aerial image shows that the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman are affected by dust and dirt flows, leading to a decrease in horizontal visibility and the continued spread of clouds over the Al Hajar Mountains may cause scattered rain,' Oman Meterology said.
There are chances of low clouds over Al Wusta and Al Dhahirah Governorates and fresh winds may lead to a drop in temperatures and frost formation on mountain tops.
According to WHO, sand and dust storms contribute directly to air pollution by increasing particulate matter concentrations. In some regions dust is a main source of air pollution from particulate matter.
These dust episodes constitute a growing environmental and public health concern, mainly for respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
