MUSCAT: The International Basketball Programme for Schools, organised by the Oman Basketball Association (OBA) with the support and supervision of the International Basketball Federation (Fiba), concluded successfully after four days of intensive activities that included theoretical sessions and practical applications. The events were held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher and the Ellesmere Muscat International School.

On the final day of the programme, a practical session was conducted with the participation of 80 students, divided into two groups. Each group underwent two consecutive training sessions lasting 35 minutes each. The training focused on enhancing basic basketball skills, such as shooting, dribbling and passing, through small games and simple physical exercises, as well as competitions that encouraged teamwork and collaboration. The sessions were supervised by international instructor Nemanja Bijedov, who provided guidance on efficiently managing training sessions, especially with large groups of students, and effectively utilising training tools.

The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Hisham al Adwani, Vice-Chairman of the Oman School Sports Association, in the presence of Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of Oman Basketball Association (OBA), Abu Bakr al Jahwari, OBA Vice-Chairman, as well as several board members and representatives of participating educational institutions. During the ceremony, participants were honoured and certificates were distributed. Additionally, educational institutions that contributed to the success of the programme, such as Hassan bin Thabit Basic Education School, Al Harith bin Khalid Basic Education School, and the Indian Schools in Wadi Kabir (General and Cambridge), were also recognised.

Collaboration Between Sports Associations

In his speech, Hisham al Adwani commended the efforts made in organising the programme, noting that it represents a significant step forward in developing educational competencies in school sports. He emphasised that the Oman School Sports Association consistently works to support teachers by involving them in training courses aimed at enhancing their sports expertise and transferring it to students, thereby contributing to the discovery and development of talent.

Al Adwani added that the School Sports Association seeks to strengthen collaboration with the Oman Basketball Association. Among the joint projects are annual competitions that include public and private schools, such as the Basketball Championship for Community Schools and General School Tournaments. He expressed readiness to support any future projects that contribute to the sustainability and development of the sport.

Praise for Organisation and Joint Efforts

International instructor Nemanja Bijedov expressed his delight in visiting Oman and overseeing this programme. He praised the quality of organisation, including the preparation of facilities, availability of tools and amenities and prompt response to unexpected requirements. He noted that this experience reflects the Oman Basketball Association's commitment to developing and promoting the sport more broadly.

This programme represents another step toward achieving the vision of the Oman Basketball Association to promote the sport and strengthen its presence in the community by investing in and training educational competencies, positively impacting the future of basketball in Oman.
