MUSCAT: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) has launched a series of strategic development projects to enhance Oman’s IT infrastructure, reflecting the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to digital transformation.

These initiatives, spearheaded under the auspices of Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, aim to modernise government services, improve efficiency and support education and scientific research.

Part of the Ministry’s Digital Transformation Plan (2021–2025), the projects focus on building an integrated digital infrastructure that streamlines procedures, reduces costs and elevates the quality of services for students, academics, employees and investors.

Some of the key highlights include:

IT infrastructure project, network development project, technical systems project, contact centre and cloud data centre.

Dr Yaqoub bin Juma al Raisi, Director-General of Planning and Head of the Digital Transformation Team, emphasised that these initiatives are more than technological upgrades — they are transformative tools to drive innovation and improve service delivery. The Ministry collaborated with leading technology companies, including Mustafa Sultan, Huawei, Vigotsu, and Omantel, to execute these projects.

Dr Al Raisi also announced forthcoming initiatives in change management, risk management, and business continuity, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact. These efforts align with Oman’s strategic vision to enhance technical policies, develop data governance and create an advanced educational environment.

This digital transformation positions Oman as a leader in adopting innovative technologies, bolstering its competitiveness on the global education map, and paving the way for sustainable economic and social development. The initiatives mark a significant leap forward in the evolution of higher education and scientific research in the Sultanate of Oman.
