'Excellence in Municipal Work' initiative to promote sustainability, innovation

The aim of the event was to foster competitiveness and creativity among municipal departments in the governorate's wilayats.
MUSCAT: The Al Sharqiyah South Governorate launched the 'Excellence in Municipal Work' initiative on Tuesday, under the slogan 'Continuous Efforts and Sustainable Development'.
The aim of the event, attended by Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of Al Sharqiyah South, is to foster competitiveness and creativity among municipal departments in the governorate's wilayats by implementing best practices and innovations that contribute to sustainable solutions in various areas of municipal work.
It also aims to improve the quality of services provided to individuals by developing the internal and external environment of municipalities, encouraging active community participation in voluntary municipal projects, and preserving public facilities.
Dr Al Maawali emphasised the importance of the initiative in achieving sustainable development and promoting innovation in municipal work. He praised the collaborative efforts of all parties involved and highlighted the significance of engaging the local community in adopting behaviours that safeguard the governorate's progress for future generations.
The evaluation mechanism of the initiative includes several key areas to measure the performance of municipalities and their adherence to excellence standards. These areas include agile management, operational effectiveness, public cleanliness, community satisfaction, volunteer initiatives, municipal projects, health control, resource consumption, and public facility preservation.
The initial evaluation committee, comprised of department directors specialising in municipal affairs, assessed the municipalities based on these criteria. Visual presentations were made during the launch ceremony to introduce the initiative's axes and visual identity, reflecting its vision of achieving sustainable development.
An exhibition showcasing achievements was also held, where municipalities presented projects and initiatives implemented according to the initiative's standards.
