The fourth edition of the Oman Science Festival (OSF) themed 'Our Sustainable Resources' kicked off at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) on Monday. Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, inaugurated OSF, which will continue until November 10.

The eight-day festival this time will have more events aiming to deliver science to students and community members in easy and interactive ways that stimulate creative thinking, and provide positive trends towards science, innovation and scientific research.

Over 141 institutions from the Sultanate of Oman, as well as 5 institutions from abroad, are taking part in OSF, which will feature 520 workshops, scientific presentations, competitions, lectures, sketches, and scientific experiments.

Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, said the festival seeks to spread scientific culture among all segments of society.

He also added that the diversity of the pavilions comes from the diversity of themes. There are pavilions dedicated to biodiversity, smart future, health and life, space, smart cities, cybernetics, natural resources, sustainability, carbon neutrality, wonders of the universe, military technologies, mobile planetarium, artificial intelligence, hackathons, and scientific innovations.

Dr Faisal al Busaidy, Director-General of Information Technology at the Ministry of Education, said to Observer: “The fourth edition of the OSF is launched with a new vision, as it focuses on sustainable resources in all their dimensions and provides an opportunity for all visitors to learn about many aspects related to sustainable development and sustainable resources. The Ministry of Education welcomes all visitors to this scientific celebration and we hope that the events and programmes will be purposeful and achieve the desired goals.”

The fourth edition of OSF reflects the directions of Oman Vision 2040 and the National Innovation Strategy to make the Sultanate of Oman the best destination among 20 countries in the innovation index by 2024. The government seeks to enhance capabilities with the private sector and society as a whole.
