Nizwa beat Dhofar in Oman Basketball League

Muscat: Nizwa Club secured an important 87-31 victory over Dhofar Club in the Oman Basketball League match at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on Sunday.

The game was entirely in Nizwa's favour, both in terms of play and result. The team performed well, capitalising on most of the opportunities presented to them. Among the standout players was professional player Agasi Tonian, who scored 24 points, alongside Saif al Toubi, Basil al Subhi, Mohammed al Wahaibi, Akram al Rashdi, and Adam al Hinai.

Nizwa controlled the match from the first quarter, with Adam al Hinai opening the scoring with five quick points. Dhofar responded with two points from Abdulrahman al Shibli. Nizwa soon extended their lead with a three-pointer from Akram al Rashdi, followed by a free throw from Mohammed al Wahaibi. Nizwa continued their dominance, bringing the score to 12-2, thanks to another three-pointer from Agasi Tonian. Despite some efforts from Dhofar, who added four points through Ahmed al Wahaibi and Abdulrahman al Shibli, the first quarter ended with Nizwa leading 20-11.



In the second quarter, Nizwa maintained their advantage with fast and organised attacks. Saif al Toubi, Mohammed al Anqoudi, and Agasi Tonian combined to score eight consecutive points. Dhofar temporarily reduced the deficit with a three-pointer from Abdulrahman al Shibli, but Al Toubi quickly answered with another three-pointer, extending Nizwa’s lead to 31-14. Nizwa continued to press offensively, adding 14 more points, while Dhofar managed only a single point from a free throw. The first half ended with Nizwa comfortably ahead, 45-15, making it difficult for Dhofar to mount a comeback.

The third quarter saw Nizwa’s control continue, increasing their lead to 50-17, with Mohammed al Wahaibi contributing a free throw. Although Dhofar responded with two points from Abdulrahman al Shibli, Al Wahaibi added two more points, and Nizwa closed the third quarter with a commanding 61-24 lead.



In the final quarter, Nizwa maintained their rhythm, with Mohammed al Anqoudi and Basil al Subhi adding four points. Dhofar attempted to respond with a three-pointer by Riyadh al Jahwari, but Nizwa widened the gap with another three-pointer from Agasi Tonian. The match concluded with additional points from Saif al Toubi, Hussain al Kindi and Musab al Riyami, sealing an overwhelming victory for Nizwa by 87-31.

The game was officiated by referee Thani al Khalasi, with Ali al Salmani and Mazin al Hilali as second and third referees. On the scorer's table were Jumaa al Hinai, Rayan al Dhabowni, and Majid al Akhzami.
