MUSCAT: Oman boys thrashed hosts Singapore 5-0 in the opener of AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers for Group J on Wednesday night. In the same group, Tajikistan registered a historic 33-0 win over Guam to lead the group with goals difference than Oman.

At Bishan Stadium in Singapore city, the national under-17 football team delivered a top show in the opening match to clinch the first three winning points in the qualifiers campaign. It was a match from one side as Oman team dominated the field and managed to reach to the opponent's goal in five occasions.

Ahmed al Omrani was the star of the match as he netted two goals in the 21st minute from penalty spot and in the 71st minute. Al Omrani received a perfect pass from Fahad inside the box as he put the ball in the net.



An impressive show was delivered by Osama al Mamari who also scored two goals. In the 54th minute, Osama managed to penetrate the opponents' defence to send a strong shot towards the goal while his second goal in the 87th minute came through a header. Sulieman al Kharousi scored in the 68th minute with a strong shot from inside the box.

Oman will face Guam on Friday before meeting Tajikistan in the concluding clash on Sunday. The victory in the coming game will raise Oman’s hopes of securing slot for the Asian finals. The junior stars are looking to rekindle the history as the national team had managed to earn two titles of the Asian Cup twice in 1996 and 2000 beside attending the Fifa U-17 World Cup three times in 1995 in Ecuador (ended in fourth place), 1997 in Egypt and 2001 in Trinidad and Tobago. The junior Red Warriors had attended the Asian Cup for 11 times and they are looking for the 12th time presence in the continental showpiece event.
