Workshop highlights food safety and public health
SALALAH: A Health Control Workshop held in Salalah, addressing critical issues related to food safety and inspection, concluded its activities last week at the Rotana Salalah Resort. The workshop was organised by the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the municipalities of Muscat and Dhofar governorates.
Specialists from Muscat Municipality presented several working papers on topics such as food safety concepts, spoilage detection, foodborne diseases, and the importance of health inspections in the food industry. The sessions also covered the activities of street vendors and mobile cafes, the impact of pesticides on public health, the application of the Lean methodology in food safety, and the HACCP system.
Ali bin Saeed al Hammadi, Director-General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, noted that the workshop was conducted in line with the GCC countries' goals to achieve coordination and integration in various fields, particularly in municipal work. The workshop aimed to exchange expertise and share modern experiences, furthering the implementation of decisions made by the GCC Ministers of Municipal Affairs at their 25th meeting in September 2022 in Saudi Arabia.
The workshop concluded with an award ceremony to honour the participants. — ONA
