Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) is paving roads using rubber-modified asphalt on an experimental basis for a sustainable environment.
MTCIT said it carried out the first experiment in paving roads using rubber-modified asphalt in the road dualisation project at Khaboura in North Batinah.
Rubber-modified asphalt is known for its flexibility and resistance to cracking, abrasion, and thermal effects, which will contribute to the a longer lifespan.
The rubber will be acquired from the recycling of used tires.
