Oman U-17 football team kicks off Turkey training camp

The Oman Under-17 football team commenced their training sessions in the underway overseas camp in Turkey on Friday. The purpose of the preparatory gathering is to ensure the players readiness ahead of the upcoming’s assignment represented by West Asian Championship which will begin on September 2 and 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers in October. The camp will run until August 25 and for a period of ten days.

The head coach of the national team Anwar al Habsi focused on the earlier training sessions on recovery exercises after the trip to Turkey. Also, the players trained on various technical sides beside the implementation of some tactical sessions.

It is expected that the junior national team will play three friendly matches as the head coach will implement several playing techniques beside giving chances for the players to evaluate their technical levels and to gain the players with more experience of international games ahead of the forthcoming events.

Ahead of the team’s existing camp, the national team had an internal gathering in the past weeks included two domestic games against Seeb and Nizwa U-19 clubs.

The junior Red Warriors won against Seeb club by 3-0. The first goal came by Seeb’s defender through an own goal while Osama al Maamari and Ahmed al Omrani netted the goals for Oman team. Then, the team they registered a 1-0 victory over Nizwa club. The only goal in the match came by Ahmed al Omrani. In all the warm up games, head coach Anwar al Habsi provided chances for the squad to play the games and select the final squad for the next assignments.

Oman’s Under-17 football team closest participation will be at the 11th edition of the West Asian Championship which will take place in Jordan from September 2 to 11.

The tournament will feature participation of nine teams which will be distributed into three groups. Oman U-17 team will play against Yemen and Saudi Arabia in Group B while Group A will comprise from the hosts Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon while Bahrain will secure slot against Syria and Palestine teams in Group C.

Oman begins their group matches at the West Asian tournament with a match against defending champions Yemen on September 2 on the opening day and then meets Saudi Arabia on September 4. The topper from each group will advance to the semifinal besides the best second-placed team among the three groups.

Oman junior Red Warriors will eye to book slot at 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers. Oman team will compete against Tajikistan, Guam and host Singapore in Group J for the 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

The qualifiers will take place from October 19 to 27 in Singapore. The ten group winners and five best second placed teams will advance to the finals accompanied by the hosts Saudi Arabia from April 3 to 20.

The national team will meet Singapore in the opener of the qualifiers on October 23 before meeting Guam in a key match on October 25. Then, the national team boys will conclude their group matches with an essential game against Tajikistan who is ranked as the top-seeded team in the group.
