Khareef Tent Pegging Championship concludes

The Sultan of Oman’s Armoured Division dominated individual and team titles, at the conclusion of the Dhofar Khareef Tent Pegging Championship at Ateen equestrian field in the Wilayat of Salalah, after three consecutive days of competition.
The event is part of equestrian activities during khareef season, organised by Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation, in cooperation with the Dhofar Equestrian Committee and support of Dhofar Governor’s Office, Dhofar Municipality, Dhofar Equestrian Company, Dhofar Tourism and Salalah Flour Mills Company.
The competitions witnessed seven teams from various cavalry units and private stables, seven rounds were on the first day represented by individual spear, double spear, and spear teams for different sizes of pegs.
The Sultan of Oman’s Armoured division (A) team, represented by Khalid bin Amer al Habsi, Khalid bin Salem al Maamari, Ali bin Khamis al Balushi and Nasser bin Rashid al Siyabi, won the championship title. The Royal Oman Police Cavalry team, represented by Waleed bin Zaher al Shraiqi, Mohammed bin Saeed al Dawoodi, Yousef bin Salem al Masroori and Yasser bin Yahya al Harrasi won the second place. The Sultan of Oman’s Armoured Division (B) team, represented by Ahed bin Khamis al Balushi, Mohammed bin Khamis al Siyabi, Hisham bin Ali al Bakri and Zaid bin Hamoud al Saidi finished third.
At the individual level, the first place was won by Nasser bin Rashid al Siyabi from the Sultan of Oman’s Armoured Division (A) team, the second place was claimed by Khalid bin Amer al Habsi from the Sultan of Oman’s Armoured Division (A) and the third place was snatched by Hisham bin Ali al Bakri from the Sultan of Oman’s Armoured Division (A).
In the overall team category, the Sultan of Oman’s Armoured Division team A and B won the first and second places. The Fursan Oman School team, represented by Badr bin Mohammed al Khasibi, Hamad bin Nasser al Riyami, Sami bin Ali al Haddadi and Safwan bin Zaid al Maamari, won the third place.
In the overall individual category, Nasser bin Rashid al Siyabi was first, Safwan bin Zaid al Maamari was second and Namir bin Mohammed al Shaidi was third.
The overall category winners will be honoured during final ceremony that will be held on August 10 at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah.
Eng Rashid bin Saeed al Ghafri, Director-General of the General-Directorate of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhofar Governorate, said: “Thanks to the Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation for organising this special event, the participation was very wonderful, as well as the riders who showed off their equestrian skills. They were distinguished and considered these events in Dhofar Governorate are a source of attraction of families and tourists in the khareef season.”
