SALALAH: The Al Baleed Beach Project, one of the new initiatives in Salalah, was established by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism within the Al Baleed Archaeological Park.
It serves as a family-friendly outlet for citizens, residents, and visitors to Dhofar Governorate, especially during the Khareef season, which attracts a significant influx of tourists from both inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.
This project, a positive addition to the tourism sector in the governorate, features a 1,200-metre walkway on a suspension bridge and includes 8 cafes and restaurants with stunning sea views.
Ali bin Salem Al Kathiri, Director of Frankincense Land Sites at the Directorate-General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, told ONA: “In line with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism’s commitment to leveraging heritage components and empowering the local community for mutual benefit, an investment agreement was signed with the Royal International Company. This partnership aims to activate cultural heritage sites as part of our broader goals to develop a sustainable tourism sector.”
He emphasised that this agreement is expected to draw more visitors to this significant site, listed on the World Heritage List (Land of Frankincense Sites).
This initiative showcases the rich Omani heritage and authentic culture, marking it as one of the strategic projects that bolster the tourism sector in the governorate and at this particular site.
Haitham bin Salem Al Hadri, owner of the investing company, highlighted the project's importance for regional development. “The Al Baleed Beach Project significantly enhances economic and social life, offering an inviting environment for citizens, residents, and tourists to enjoy shopping, dining, and exploring the project’s various attractions along the bridge,” he said.
He described the Al Baleed Beach Project as a unique architectural marvel, with shops and restaurants suspended on a bridge overlooking the sea, providing visitors with an exceptional experience.
Al Hadri added that initial visitor numbers indicate the project's potential to significantly boost tourism, benefiting the community and solidifying the region’s status as a premier tourist destination. He also mentioned that future developments are planned to attract visitors of all ages, ensuring the project’s ongoing positive impact. – ONA
