MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MoTCIT) is spearheading multiple initiatives aimed at boosting job opportunities for Omanis in the transport, logistics, communications, and information technology sectors. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to regulate the labor market and achieve the goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040.

Eng Saeed bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, announced that from January 2025 to the end of 2027, specific jobs across various sectors will be exclusively allocated to Omanis. This move aims to enhance coordination with the Ministry of Labour and align with the government's strategic initiatives.

In a statement to the Oman News Agency,Aal Maawali detailed the Ministry's annual Omanisation targets leading up to 2040. In 2024, the Ministry aims to achieve 20% Omanisation in the transport and logistics sector and 31% in the communications and information technology sector. These targets will be reviewed and adjusted annually.

The Ministry's long-term goal is to Omanise professional roles in these sectors through a series of policies and initiatives. Key policies include the restriction of certain professions to Omanis, the establishment of minimum employment levels proportional to sector growth, and the governance of work permits. Additional measures include oversight, professional level tests, job titles, wage support, and extensive training and qualification programs.

Al Maawali emphasized that these initiatives aim to replace expatriate-held positions with qualified Omani professionals. The first phase targets Omanisation percentages between 20% and 50% in the transport and logistics sector, with a goal of reaching 100% by 2040. This phase will cover maritime, air, and land transport fields, including administrative, specialized, and support roles, identified through workforce data analysis.

For the communications and information technology sector, the initiative aims for Omanisation percentages between 50% and 100% by 2026, focusing on quality jobs.

The Ministry is also promoting self-employment opportunities in these sectors by linking licensed activities to the self-employment registry. Furthermore, starting in 2025, the Ministry will ensure that companies assigned projects worth over 3 million Omani riyals contribute to local added value, enhancing the integration of the work system in collaboration with sector partners.

These comprehensive initiatives reflect the Ministry's commitment to creating sustainable employment opportunities for Omanis and advancing the nation's economic and social development goals.
