Embassy officials announce details of Sri Lankan Roadshow in Muscat
MUSCAT: The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oman will hold its first Sri Lankan roadshow, organised under the theme of ‘Serendib the Golden Island’, together with the Sri Lanka Business Council Initiative (SLBCI), on July 5.
This will promote Sri Lankan Culture, Tourism, and Trade, and is scheduled to be held at the Oasis Mall, Al Khuwair, from 3 pm to 9 pm.
The event aims to showcase Sri Lanka as a premier travel destination to attract tourists during the summer vacation in Oman as well as to portray Sri Lankan vibrant culture and trade opportunities.
With the active participation of the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Oman, the event seeks to create a lasting impression of Sri Lanka among Omani and expatriates alike, fostering cultural exchange and strengthening bilateral economic ties.
The roadshow will offer a variety of experiences to make the Omani and foreign visitors explore various charms and joys of Sri Lanka, aiming to spread awareness about Sri Lanka’s exciting adventure and thrill, wild and scenic, pristine and heritage, bliss, and essence by the Sri Lankan tour operators.
The Embassy is also planning to invite VIPs comprising Omani and foreign high dignitaries from the Omani Government and Diplomatic corps based in the Sultanate. The event comprises a series of cultural activities showcasing Sri Lankan traditional dances, and music, a fashion show to display the Sri Lankan traditional costumes and apparel industry, and stands promoting Sri Lankan trade products such as Ceylon Tea, Ceylon spices, and confectionaries.
In ancient times, Sri Lanka was indeed renowned among Arab traders by the name ‘Serendib’. The island's rich resources, exotic spices, and strategically important location in the centre of the maritime Silk Route between China and Europe made it a significant trading hub in the Indian Ocean, attracting merchants from various parts of the world, including Arabs.
This historical connection between Sri Lanka and Arab traders contributed to the enhancement of people-to-people connections and socio-economic exchanges from the ancient era to date.
Sri Lanka is one of the leading tourist destinations which is gaining its top ranking among the leading tourism destinations in the world. Sri Lanka has now attracted some 800K tourists so far in 2024. It is believed that the Middle East, especially Oman’s steadily growing middle and upper-class population with a substantial income and interest in international travel will have a positive impact on the growing tourism market in Sri Lanka.
This will be the first occasion where the Embassy has approached Omani citizens and other foreign expatriates residing in the Sultanate on a mass scale when earlier, there were B2B sessions held at closed doors, promoting Sri Lanka tourism in Oman.
Oasis Mall Al Khuwair will be the venue partner of the Sri Lankan Roadshow, by being the first gold sponsor for the event.
