SUR: Shaikh Dr Hilal bin Ali al Habsi, Wali of Sur, presided over the opening of the project to develop shelter systems for animal populations in the Wilayat of Sur, with the support and funding from the Oman Liquefied Natural Gas Company.

The project aims to create job opportunities for young people, improve the standards of living for social security and limited income categories, and enhance the added value of animal products, in addition to its role in organising and developing shelter systems for livestock.

This is in addition to contributing to strengthen food security.

Eng Khaled bin Hamdan al Hadhrami, project manager, said, 'The project is considered one of the vital and important projects in terms of contribution to enhancing food security and raising the value-added rate. It also contributes to absorbing job opportunities for members of the community.'

Al Hadhrami confirmed that the project is a model for other upcoming projects that are currently being prepared, all of which aim to develop the livestock sector in the governorate.

'The Oman LNG Company shows interest and support for various aspects of the country’s natural resources, including livestock. It also contributes to continuous efforts in the environment, as its development programmes have touched on various development sectors to protecting the environment and sustainability of its resources and natural wealth,' he said.

The cost of the project amounted to about RO 300,000 and the number of beneficiaries reached 78 livestock breeders. Among the most important services accompanying the project are providing each barn with lighting by the solar energy system.
