Oman voices concern over illicit small arms

NEW YORK: The Sultanate of Oman voiced deep concern over the illicit proliferation of small arms and light weapons (SALW), which poses a serious threat to international peace and security and fuels armed conflicts, terrorism and organised crime.
This came during the speech of the Sultanate of Oman delivered by First Secretary Mohammed bin Ali al Shihi, member of the Permanent Mission of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, before the United Nations Conference (RevCon4) to review progress made in the implementation of the Programme of Action on combating illicit small arms and light weapons.
The Sultanate of Oman reiterated its full commitment to the implementation of the Programme of Action to prevent, combat and eradicate illicit trade in small arms and light weapons as part of the collective international effort in which all countries cooperate to to maintain security and stability.
The Sultanate of Oman reviewed the procedures and measures it has taken to enhance the legal and institutional frameworks to combat illicit trade in small arms and light weapons including strengthening national legislation by enacting, developing and updating national laws in line with international standards related to the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons. — ONA
