Muscat Blazers clinch title in 10th edition of women's volleyball tourney
MUSCAT: Muscat Blazers claimed the title in the 10th edition of women’s volleyball tournament organised by the Oman Expatriates Volleyball Association recently.
Sixteen teams vied for the honours in the one-day tournament held at the Strike Sports Centre near Oman Automobile Association from 9 am to 6 pm on June 7.
The 10th anniversary edition saw some thrilling matches among the teams, said Khalil al Balushi, chief organiser of the tournament and founder of Oman Expatriates Volleyball Association.
“The tournament in its 10th edition saw around 200 players from several nationalities including Omani, Iranian, Filipino, Canadian, Russian, Indian, Sri Lankan and several European countries,' Khalil said.
Saada al Ismaili, Vice-Chairperson of Oman Women's Sports Committee, was the chief guest of the tournament in presence of Aisha al Jabri,
member of board of directors of Oman Volleyball Association and Madhia al Suleimani from Al Wasl Radio.
The Mixer team claimed the runners-up trophy while Vollocity Academy came third.
Among the individual awards, Apple of Muscat Blazers claimed the Most Valuable Player (MVP) honour. Nastran of Mixer won the best spiker award, Jovy of Muscat Blazers was selected as the best server and Kira from Vollocity Academy bagged the best setter award.
