DIBBA: The Dibba Fishing Port Development Project is considered one of the most important projects undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Musandam Governorate.
The project aims to contribute to the economic diversification strategy, create an attractive environment for investments and exploit fish resources. The total cost of the project is RO 40 million.
Ahmed bin Ali al Shuhi, Head of the Dibba Fishing Port, said that the construction work on the project is well in progress with the completion rate currently at 75 per cent.
The marine works at the port are expected to be completed within the next two months. He added that the project is expected to be fully operational during the first quarter of 2025.
The concrete docks have been completed and general docks equipped will soon be installed, the official said, noting that the port is currently dealing with all sectors and has received cargo ships from neighbouring countries.
Al Shuhi said this is a multi-purpose project involving 4 main sectors including fishing, tourism, maritime transport and trade services, and maritime security. He noted that the project involves two breakwaters with the primary one measuring 1,550 metres long while the secondary one is 500 metres long.
Other facilities include a port basin with a depth of up to 8 metres, floating quays, a beach for the mooring of small boats with a length of 130 metres, a boat slipway, among others.
An area of 5,000 square metres is earmarked to invest in tourist facilities including a hotel, a restaurant, transportation, special docks for each sector, commercial facilities, internal roads, electricity and lighting, water network and rainwater drainage, the official said.
The port will have a capacity to accommodate cruise ships especially after the Dibba Port was approved by the International Cruise Ship Organization as a station for its ships worldwide, the official said noting that the port receives about 4,000 passengers per month through the National Ferries Company.
The Dibba Port will have a great economic return for Musandam Governorate in general and the Wilayat of Dibba in particular owing to its investment opportunities as it will attract foreign investors and generate over 100 direct and indirect jobs upon the start of the commercial operations, Al Shuhi said.
Once completed, the Dibba Port will be the second largest multi-purpose port in the Sultanate of Oman and the first port linking Musandam Governorate to Al Batinah North Governorate.
Upon the completion of the Dibba-Lima-Khasab Road project, the number of trips will increase attracting more travellers and tourists to the Wilayat of Dibba, he said. — ONA
