OWA organises silversmithing workshop for women

The workshop includes a specialised silversmithing course on many topics including theoretical, practical, and marketing aspects
Muscat: The Omani Women’s Association in Muscat Governorate organised a training workshop over three months with the support of the Omani Indian Fertiliser Company (OMIFCO) and in cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority.
A number of the association’s members participated in the course and a training programme that prepared the participants with theoretical and practical knowledge of the craft of silversmithing.
Maryam bint Mohammed al Zadjaliyah, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Women’s Association in Muscat, said: “To ensure the involvement of women and their contribution to self-reliance, we organised this training workshop, which includes a specialised silversmithing course, on many topics, including theoretical, practical, and marketing aspects.”
On the theoretical level, the participants will learn about the skill. The craft, the tools and equipment used in it, and the accompanying safety procedures due to the use of some chemicals and gases during the welding and unloading operations.
The Omani Women’s Association in Muscat has prepared a special workshop that includes the necessary equipment and devices, including the safety tools necessary to protect the participants during training.
She added that the participants will be trained to manage the marketing account on social media platforms (Instagram and WhatsApp) to allow them to electronically market their products while designing a visual identity and a trade name that reflect the identity of the craft product and help spread and market it. The participants will also be trained at this stage on how to photograph with a mobile phone to prepare clips. Marketing products and marketable images.
This workshop is presented by the trainer, Wafa bint Masoud al Habsiyah, founder of the craft project ‘Hajoula’.
The Association’s chairperson confirmed that in addition to the craft goals, the Omani Women’s Association in Muscat seeks several social and economic goals, the most important of which is consolidating the culture of craft work and creating sources of income for families with limited income and social security, where the trainee will acquire all the necessary skills to be able to open his craft business project.
It seeks to empower women economically, support them in establishing various projects that serve the individual and society, and contribute to the advancement of the Omani economy. The association also aims to continue and sustain traditional crafts, transmit them across generations, and develop them using the latest tools and machines.
