Oman to host UN tourism meeting
MUSCAT: The 50th meeting of the Regional Committee for the Middle East of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the ‘Investment in Tourism’ conference will commence on Wednesday, May 22. The event, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, will be held at Al Bustan Palace Hotel and will last for three days.
The opening ceremony of the meeting will be under the auspices of HH Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad al Said, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank of Oman.
Oman’s hosting of the meeting is of significant importance in promoting its tourism sector and its cultural assets, while enabling the Omani tourism sector to strengthen relationships with its counterparts in the region.
The accompanying conference, titled ‘Investment in Tourism: Opportunities and Challenges of Sustainable Financing,’ provides an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to sustainably financing the tourism sector.
It aims to raise awareness of the importance of directing funds towards tourism projects that contribute to economic and social growth in sustainable ways.
