Oman participates in preparatory meeting for the Arab summit

 
Manama: The Sultanate of Oman took part in the ministerial preparatory meeting for the 33rd session of the ordinary Arab Summit Conference which will be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation to the meeting was headed by Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Arab Republic of Egypt and permanent representative to the League of Arab States.

During the meeting, the report of the presidency of the Arab Summit at its previous 32nd session in Jeddah was discussed, and the implementation of the decisions and commitments taken in it, as well as the items included in the summit programme related to issues of joint Arab action, most notably the Palestinian issue, were discussed.

During the meeting, the Kingdom of Bahrain took over the presidency of the 33rd Arab Summit from Saudi Arabia.

Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, said in a statement to the Oman News Agency (ONA): “The meeting discussed the draft agenda of the 33rd session of summit. It includes a lot of items, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.”



He stated that the ministers had stressed that the summit would come out with consistent and agreed-upon decisions that support the Arab positions and aim to achieve the demands of the Palestinian people for declaring a Palestinian state and obtaining full membership in the United Nations.

He added: “The crisis in Sudan was widely discussed at the summit and will take decisions in this regard. The summit will also take decisions on the other crises taking place in the region. A number of initiatives proposed by the Kingdom of Bahrain were also put forward by the ministers. Several other topics were referred by the Economic and Social Council and are awaiting approval.”

The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman to the meeting comprised Sayyid Faisal Hareb al Busaidy, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dr Ahmed bin Salem Jaaboub, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the League of Arab States and a number of officials from the Foreign Ministry. — ONA
