OQ, the global integrated energy group from Oman, represented by OQ Exploration and Production, has launched the first road safety training programme in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The programme, named V-traineR, complies with the OPAL Road Safety Standard, and utilises a driving simulator integrated with virtual reality technology. It uses advanced artificial intelligence to provide a realistic, risk-free training environment, helping drivers develop essential safe driving skills and thereby reducing vehicle-related accidents.

This initiative underscores the company's commitment to the well-being of its employees and contractors across its operational areas. To maximise accessibility, the programme is available in four languages. Developed through a fruitful collaboration between OQ's road safety experts and external AI specialists, the programme features over 50 comprehensive training modules.

The training programme is structured into four stages: Preventative Driving Basics, Preventative Driving on Paved Roads, Preventative Driving on Dirt Roads, and the Dirt Roads Simulator. This design ensures it is suitable for all trainees, regardless of their educational background or prior experience.

Hamed bin Saud al Shaidhani, Vice President HSSE at OQ Exploration and Production, stated: “Virtual reality technology is a groundbreaking and effective training method that has demonstrated its ability to improve driving skills and enhance risk awareness. We are proud to be the first company to adopt this modern technology to achieve our goal of reducing road accidents and reaching zero injuries”.
