MUSCAT: Following the success of the first phase in last holy month of Ramadhan, the Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) activated implementation of the shuttle initiative in parks, gardens, and beaches in its second phase. The purpose of this initiative is to spread the sport on a larger scale throughout the Sultanate of Oman and to expand the base of physical activity exercisers.

This initiative came as part of sports activities in universities, schools, and sports academies. The ORSC took part in the activities of the Sports Village organised by the Sports and Community Group at Sultan Qaboos University at the Al Sahwa Park, which witnessed the participation of various communities.

The committee participated in the activities of the Starting Line Sports Academy on its open sports day, targeting players and their parents, and received great interaction from the participating children who were given the opportunity to experience shuttlecock outdoors. As for schools, the committee added its shuttle experience corner to the Sports Hour programme, organised by the Qantab Basic Education School (1-9) on its sports day held last Thursday.

The launch of this initiative was during Ramadhan within the interest of the ORSC in encouraging various ages of the community to practice shuttlecock as one of the easy sports that can be practiced in various locations such as parks, gardens, open squares, and hard floors.

Amal al Mahrouqi, board member of ORSC, said that the remarkable success witnessed by the shuttle initiative in the air is the great acceptance enjoyed by shuttlecock sport in the Sultanate of Oman as it is one of the sports that is easy to practice anywhere and at any age.

“ We seek to continue this initiative and spread it on a larger scale throughout the Sultanate of Oman to expand the base of physical activity exercisers in general and shuttlecock sport in particular.”

Nasser al Jabri, school sports teacher and volunteer as part of the initiative implementation team, said, “this initiative is considered one of important initiatives for the local community as it has attracted various ages of the community to practice sports, undoubtedly raising the awareness and understanding of the community about shuttlecock sport.”
