NIZWA: Municipalities across the country, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, are launching a joint campaign to educate citizens about food safety. Food Safety Week is an event that is held every year in various governorates.

As part of this week, the Nizwa Municipality headed to the Grand Mall of Nizwa to hold an integrated educational exhibition targeting visitors and school students in order to educate them and spread awareness of food safety.

The exhibition was held in the presence of Dr Khalaf bin Salim al Ishaqi, Member of the State Council, and members of the municipal council in Nizwa and Al Jabal Al Akhdhar.

The exhibition was held on Wednesday for a full day. The exhibition included several corners: the municipality department in Nizwa corner, the municipality department in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar corner, the laboratory of Al Dakhiliyah Municipality corner, the vocational college in Al Khabourah, the University of Nizwa represented by the College of Nursing, the Food Safety Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Consumer Protection Authority, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority.



Sami bin Salim al Hadhrami, Head of the Food Control and Licensing Department in the Municipality of Nizwa, said: “We held this exhibition in cooperation with the Municipality Department in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar as part of the Food Safety Week activities. The exhibition aims to introduce people and society to food safety and educate them about the importance of healthy and safe food. The Food Safety Week activities lasted for a week. We opened an exhibition in Nizwa and in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar.'

The events this week aim to highlight the importance of following hygiene and safety standards in home kitchens and restaurants. The activities are scheduled to include monitoring restaurants, cafes and establishments that serve food, holding exhibitions, workshops and awareness campaigns targeting all segments of society, with the aim of achieving a positive shift towards eating healthy and safe food.
