IBRA: A hot water spring burst in the first floor of a citizens’ house in the Wilayat of Ibra following the recent heavy rains that caused excessive flowing of wadis.

Jaroof al Nahdi, a resident of Saih Al Shakhabeet in the Wilayat of Ibra and owner of the affected house, said that his house is not situated close to a wadi or a water body but in a semi-mountainous terrain.

Al Nahdi was taken aback when water emerged from beneath the hall and the amount of water increased day by day.

“This never happened before although the area saw many incidents of heavy rain over the past years and wadis overflew in the surrounding area. My house was built in accordance to the specifications and maps approved by the municipality. There were no signs of water during the excavation or traces of a well or an old falaj. Specialists from the municipality inspected the site before the beginning of construction and the foundation is 1.5 metres deep. Surprisingly enough, no other house in the vicinity was similarly affected.”

He said, “At the beginning I expected that that water would stop running into my house from below when rainwater stopped flowing on the wadis, however the water level began to rise to reach 1.5 metres and it was hot.

For the past eight days water continued gushing into the house. Small pumps failed to drain off the water from the house. They used a 5-horsepower pump but the water level did not decrease but rather flowed more powerfully and became hotter.
