Muscat: Termination of employment contracts and non-payment of wages topped the list of complaints received by the General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) in 2023.

The GFOW, in its annual report, stated that the most prominent labor demands, complaints, and violations received in 2023 included the termination of employment contracts unilaterally by the employer without legal justifications, termination of employment contracts due to the end of the projects assigned to the establishments, or due to the bankruptcy and liquidation of the establishments.

Other complaints included non-payment of wages or delay in payment in violation of the labor law and transfer of Omani workforce to different work sites other than those specified in the employment contract.

The report stated that the effects of the global economic crisis due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic are still noticed in some sectors, especially those related to the conclusion of several business projects by establishments.

It also highlighted that some establishments failed to adhere to safety standards and protect employees at the workplace.
