Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police (ROP), has opened the additional lanes on the Rusayl-Bidbid road towards Nizwa.

Launched in 2020, the 27km Bidbid-Rusayl road expansion project includes four lanes on each side, new flyovers, pedestrian underpasses and bridges, and rainwater drainage facilities.

The widening of the road will ease traffic as the highway (with additional lanes) will have the capacity to handle over 8,000 vehicles per hour from over 3,000 vehicles per hour.

The road has been designed according to all traffic safety requirements with vehicles able to operate at a speed of 120km/hour.

Two new intersections have been added including one in Ghala to keep pace with population growth in these areas, especially on the Ansab-Jifnain road.

To facilitate the pedestrian crossing, the project includes the expansion of the underpasses and four new overbridges to serve the communities on both sides of the road.
