MUSCAT: The general index of import prices in the Sultanate of Oman recorded a decline of 4.7 per cent at the end of the third quarter of 2023 compared to the same quarter of 2022 , as a result of a decline in most of the groups that make up the general index.

The machinery and transportation equipment group decreased by 0.8 per cent, the manufactured goods classified mainly by material group declined by 5.4 per cent, the food and live animals group fell by 3.1 per cent, the mineral fuels, mineral lubricants and similar materials group fell by 16.2 per cent, and the inedible raw materials excluding fuel by 2 per cent and beverages and tobacco by 2.9 per cent.

On the other hand, the chemicals and related materials group increased by 3.8 per cent, and the miscellaneous manufactures group increased by 1.4 per cent.

Compared to the second quarter of 2023, the import price index declined by 7.2 per cent. The machinery and transportation equipment group declined by 16.1 per cent, manufactured goods classified primarily by material by 9.9 per cent, miscellaneous manufactures by 5.3 per cent, mineral fuels, mineral lubricants and related materials by 6.2 per cent, and beverages and tobacco by 3.2 per cent.

In contrast, the index for the food and live animals group increased by 4.1 per cent, and inedible raw materials excluding fuel by 1.5 per cent. — ONA
